Toronto Man Charged With First-Degree Murder in 2022 Killing of Ding Ping Wang

TORONTO — Toronto police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the 2022 shooting death of Ding Ping Wang, marking a major development in a homicide investigation that has remained active for nearly four years.

Police say Justin Longshaw, 39, of Toronto, was arrested on Monday, August 24, and charged with first-degree murder.

The charge relates to the November 12, 2022 killing of Ding Ping Wang, 31, who was shot while sitting inside a vehicle in a plaza parking lot near Midland Avenue and Passmore Avenue in Scarborough.

According to Toronto police, an unknown person approached Wang's vehicle and shot him. Wang suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Released New Footage and Artist Rendering

Years after the killing, investigators renewed their public efforts to identify a suspect.

On July 28, 2026, Toronto police released security footage along with an artist rendering of the person investigators were trying to identify. Police said the footage showed the suspect travelling the same route on foot on November 11, 2022 — one day before Wang was killed.

The artist rendering was created with the assistance of an eyewitness who had come forward during the investigation.

Police Ask: “Who is Jay?”

The investigation took another turn on August 14 when Toronto police announced they believed the person they were trying to identify went by the name “Jay.”

Investigators released additional security footage believed to show the same suspect months after Wang's murder.

Police said that footage was connected to an attempted murder near Midland Avenue and Passmore Avenue on March 10, 2023. Investigators also believed the suspect had access to a black four-door SUV at the time.

Arrest Made

Ten days after that public appeal, Toronto police arrested Longshaw.

He has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Tuesday morning.

The allegation against Longshaw has not been proven in court.

Police have not publicly said what specifically led investigators to Longshaw or whether the recent release of surveillance footage and the artist rendering contributed directly to the arrest.

The investigation remains active.
